IMCZY Successfully Completed Major Energy Efficiency Retrofit of 1st Vessel with Air Lubrication System, Shaft Generator for Reducing Fuel Consumption and the Subsequent CO2 Emissions

2024-06-13

With all joint efforts and witness, the Norwegian vessel left port and started the commissioning test for upgrade on May 7th 2024. During the sea trial, installed air lubrication system, main engine, and entire shaft system, including new shaft generator, all tested and performed well with one-time qualified inspection as expected. High-quality service received compliment from the shipowner, class surveyor and related makers.

Air Lubrication Retrofitting

The air lubrication system changes the physical properties of the turbulent boundary layer, resulting in reduced friction between water & flat bottom and improved energy efficiency for vessels. The project team kept close communication with the shipowner and makers from beginning. Full engineering preparation and well-considered production planning, ensured all the key point in schedule. Fast action and always found solution in first time, to keep the project items was accepted on a one-time basis.

Newly Installation of Shaft Generator and Stern Tube Renewal & Stern Tube Seals Conversion

The project includes the following major tasks:

1. Conversion of the tail shaft water seal system to oil & gas sealing system (including stern boss machined, stern tube renewal, stern tube seals system rebuild up).

2. Repair and machining of the tail shaft.

3. Installation of a direct driven shaft generator system.

Although above items carry out in same area, with limited space, and multidimensional cross-operations, tight process integration. The project team never gave up and kept positive to face challenges. They proactively developed various process solutions and diligently managed every stage of production. Through collaborative efforts, they had reduced docking period and finished installation safely.
